Why Many People Prefer Long-Acting MAT Options

Long-acting buprenorphine injections like Vivitrol, Sublocade and Brixadi make treatment easier, more predictable, and less stressful. Many individuals prefer these options because they provide steady support without daily medication and help build confidence in recovery.

What people often appreciate about long-acting injections:

  • No daily dosing — weekly or monthly support

  • More consistent craving and withdrawal relief

  • Fewer medication “ups and downs”

  • Greater privacy and discretion

  • Reduced risk of missed doses or lost medication

  • Helps stabilize recovery when cravings are strongest

  • Less daily stress about treatment

  • Feels “hands-off” and simple

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)?

A:
MAT is a combination of FDA-approved medications and supportive psychiatric care used to reduce cravings, manage withdrawal, and stabilize recovery. At Mendful Minds, your treatment plan is individualized and may include buprenorphine (Suboxone/Subutex), long-acting injectable buprenorphine (Sublocade or Brixadi), and medications for alcohol use disorder such as naltrexone, Vivitrol, Disulfiram, or Acamprosate.

Q: Do I have to be in therapy to receive MAT?

A:
No. Therapy is strongly encouraged, but it is not required to begin or continue MAT at Mendful Minds. Many patients choose to add therapy later or use our services alongside external therapists or rehab programs.

Q: Can I start Suboxone the same day?

A:
Often, yes. If appropriate, same-day or next-day Suboxone induction may be available. Your provider will review your medical history, level of withdrawal, and safety considerations to determine if same-day initiation is clinically appropriate.

Q: Are long-acting injections like Sublocade or Brixadi safe?

A:
Yes. Long-acting buprenorphine injections are FDA-approved and have strong evidence supporting their use. They provide stable medication levels, reduce daily dosing, and may help prevent relapse. Your provider will help determine whether weekly or monthly injections are a good fit for you.

Q: What’s the difference between Suboxone and Subutex?

A:
Both contain buprenorphine, but Suboxone also includes naloxone. Suboxone is the preferred medication for most patients and is now approved for use in pregnancy. Subutex is used only in specific clinical situations, such as documented naloxone intolerance.

Q: What medications do you use for alcohol use disorder (AUD)?

A:
We offer multiple FDA-approved options including oral naltrexone, Vivitrol (monthly injection), Disulfiram (Antabuse), and Acamprosate. Your provider will help determine which option best fits your needs and goals.

Q: Do I have to stop using completely before starting MAT?

A:
Not always. Many patients begin treatment while still struggling with cravings or recent use. Your provider will discuss the safest way to start medication based on the substance, last use, and your overall health.

Q: Do you coordinate with detox, rehab, or outpatient programs?

A:
Yes. We routinely work with detox centers, residential treatment programs, PHP/IOP programs, therapists, and case managers to ensure you have consistent, continuous support throughout all levels of care.

Q: Can I receive my injections at home?

A:
In some situations, certain medications may be eligible for in-home administration through licensed nursing services. Ask your provider whether in-home injection visits are available for your medication.

Q: How often will I follow up with my provider?

A:
Follow-up frequency depends on your treatment plan. Early in recovery, appointments may be weekly or biweekly. As you stabilize, visits may occur monthly or as clinically appropriate.

Q: Do you treat co-occurring mental health conditions?

A:
Yes. Many individuals with SUD also experience mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, PTSD, Bipolar Disorder, or ADHD. We treat both together to support long-term stability.
